Enemies of the Heart

Previously released in 2006 as It Came from Within, author Andy Stanley re-releases the updated 2011 version as Enemies of the Heart. A practical title for the veracity Andy writes.  Enemies of the Heart describes the four emotions that control you and how to break away from those emotions once and for all. Guilt, anger, greed and jealousy plague our veins and corrupt our heart.  The first page suitably begins with Jeremiah 17:9 ESV “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “
 

 Andy puts a humbling and often humorous personal illustration on each of the four emotions we are in battle with.  Each emotion is described and evaluated through four sections; analyzing the root of the emotion, what is the emotion, confronting the emotion and finally moving forward. Through his personal experiences and reference to scripture, Andy describes what God says about these emotions and how we can overcome them.

 As stated on page 113, “Secrets are like buried splinters: The best thing to do is get them out; otherwise, the wound gets infected. Healing can’t begin until the splinter is out-until you confess.” Reading Enemies of the Heart was an awakening to my inner-self loathing. I highly recommend the book  as it will cause you to examine your own heart and determine who the real enemy is.

Essentials for Life For Women

At its core "Essential for Life For Women" is a how to book. Similar to a cook book for a great dish, this book is about how to prepare a sweet life as a christian women.

Each chapter discusses a topic in detail. At the end of each chapter is a list of scripture versus to meditate on as well as a list of "Do's and Dont's" to ponder further.

Marcia Ford tell it like it is and puts great thought and biblical references into her list of "Essential's for Women". This is an excellent read for women of all ages and stages of life.

Kim Cash Tate’s book Faithful truly touches my heart.  A novel of women who are friends and how each struggles with being faithful to god and having marriages put to the test with their faithfulness.

I had a hard time putting this book down at night as I was so involved with the stories of these women.  What I loved about this book was the multicultural characters and the descriptions of their very real lives. I could relate to the feelings and emotions of these women and heartfelt experiences.

Kim’s writes about Dana’s character with such passion and true emotion. Dana struggles with her marriage as a result of her husband’s infidelity. I could feel Dana’s emotions of pain and anger. Each character has their own story and I love how the book concludes. 

I can definitely see an opportunity for a sequel. Kim Cash Tate is a talented fiction novel writer and I can’t wait to read more of her books!

Angel Song

Angel song is my first Christian fiction novels. Sheila Walsh and Kathryn Cushman portrayed the characters and story in a very realistic manner for me. I couldn’t put this book down. No wonder it was Women of Faith’s book of the year. 

While the book focuses on the main character Ann who has suddenly lost her sister in an unfortunate accident there is also a story about a child named Keith. He is a child with down syndrome who hears the songs of the Angels.  Keith’s story reminds me how children often see and hear things that we as adults simply can’t. 

This novel is impressive, sure to capture your attention and leave you wanting more.

Kaleidoscope

In Kaleidoscope, Patsy Clairmont takes us through readings from the book of Proverbs.  Each Chapter begins with a verse from Proverbs and Patsy ties the verse into a personal experience. She explains how her heart has been changed through the straightforward counsel of Proverbs. 

The analogy our lives are like Kaleidoscopes is brilliant. The book is a colorful spin on how our lives are similar to a Kaleidoscope with all its bits and pieces swirling around inside. At the end of each chapter, questions are offered to personalize the chapters opening Proverbs. 

 I can relate to the authors content in my own life on many different levels.  In chapter 30 “Something Fishy”, Patsy discusses Proverbs 1:2a which reflects To know wisdom and instruction….. She talks of her mom’s Alzheimer’s and how the family learned to cope with the deteriorating disease. I found this story particularly insightful and loved her encouraging take on the situation. 

Everyone has a story; Kaleidoscope is a collection of Patsy’s stories told with wit and humor. Patsy says it best, “God ultimately uses our past, secures our today, and holds our destiny”.  A tender felt book you are sure to enjoy.
